Here Comes the Bride and Groom…and Cookies

My nephew will be married next month (9-10-11) at beautiful Heart Bay in the northern end of Lake George. This is the spot from a few weeks ago.

In my family, an important part of any wedding ever hosted by my parents (and I have five sisters) were the cookies. It was common before a wedding to take the long trip to Utica in Central New York for trays of incredible cookies from the Florentine Pastry Shop.

This great piece from a few years back in the New York Times observes cookie traditions at weddings in Pittsburgh.

The wedding of Nikki and Chris will be no different. My family will be baking for this event but no one has given me specific orders. The next few weeks will be like an early Christmas, or at least a warm up for the winter holidays. Photos will follow.

There are no specific instructions – I just hope it’s not too hot to be baking your brains out!
